The Importance of Improving Learning Behaviour
Across the world children report that disruptive behaviour by fellow pupils in school is the major factor which inhibits their learning. Right now, in the UK, approximately 10,000 pupils are not attending school because they are temporarily excluded for unacceptable behaviour and a higher number are not attending because they are school refusers, often the victims of intimidation and bullying. Last year 89,200 children were excluded from school for violent behaviour towards others.
Furthermore the reason, after workload, cited by the one in four UK teachers who leave the profession in the first three years of teaching is the challenging behaviour of children. Data from other countries shows that the UK situation is not exceptional.
