The University of Northampton is a major provider of higher education in the East Midlands region of England, offering a wide range of successful undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including doctorates. The School of Education is consistently rated as one of the leading providers of initial teacher education for early years and primary age groups (TDA category A and Ofsted grade 1 Outstanding). Our Continuing Professional Development programme set at Masters level is accessed by 1,000 teachers per year, and has been shown to achieve direct and immediate impact upon children and young people’s learning with particular emphasis on Primary Mathematics, Special Educational Needs and Dyslexia
The School of Education ensures that all of its students have their studies located within a global perspective including opportunities to visit another European country on some programmes. We also have an increasing number of international students, primarily studying for awards at Masters and PhD level. These students have led to the development of long-lasting research and partnership links with India and Hong Kong in particular.
The School’s Centre for Education and Research has developed an international reputation for addressing complex educational issues in partnership with government agencies, charitable organisations, local authorities and schools. Examples include work on special and inclusive education for the Australian government; the development of the highly regarded Behaviour for Learning (B4L) website; and studies into the deployment of Teaching Assistants in the UK, Hong Kong and Ireland.
